The German national team is going through difficult times. Joachim Loew after the disastrous World Cup never balanced the team. In the League of Nations, the fight for the first line was lost to Spain. In the qualification of the World Cup, there was also a failure at the start in the form of a 1:3 defeat from North Macedonia. In the opening match of Euro 2020, the Germans also faced problems. In terms of the game as a whole, the Bundesteam were not too inferior to the French, but failed to answer with their own goal. The result is a 0:1 defeat and an almost complete fiasco in the context of the struggle for the first line. In the second round Germany also lost the start of the fight. The Germans conceded from Portugal first, but then found a weak spot on the right flank of the Portuguese defense. Regular failures in this area allowed Robin Gosens to score a goal and take part in two more scoring attacks, which ultimately allowed the extreme attacking fullback to receive the title of player of the match. A 4:2 victory allows Germany to be optimistic about the future, at least the near future.
The French national team did not slow down after winning the World Cup. Didier Deschamps’ team won the Nations League, successfully started qualifying for the World Cup. The start of Euro 2020 was also very solid for the tricolors. The French gained three points in a duel with Germany thanks to an own goal by Mats Hummels. Three points practically guaranteed France a place in the playoffs, given that there was a match with Hungary ahead. In a meeting with the Hungarians, who had been defeated by Portugal a few days earlier, France was the undisputed favorite and many were waiting for their confident victory. However, the plot turned out to be very unpredictable. Hungary opened the scoring and, in general, played very bravely against the world champions. As a result, the French pulled out a 1:1 draw and did not particularly try to force events, being satisfied with one point.
