The Titans have only four wins in their first nine matches of the IPL 2024 season. They are not as successful as they were in their inaugural season in 2022 when Gujarat won the IPL title. There’s an opportunity here to bounce back from their recent defeat to the Delhi Capitals. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan have been the top performers for the Titans this season. Sudharsan has scored 334 runs in nine innings, while Gill has scored 304 runs in nine innings. However, they have lacked sufficient support overall. No other player from Gujarat has even scored 160 runs this season. In bowling, seam bowler Mohit Sharma has been impressive, taking 10 wickets for the Titans in 2024. He is their leading wicket-taker in the tournament this year, but he had a costly outing and failed to take a wicket in the recent defeat to the Capitals. Rashid Khan has been Gujarat’s most successful spinner this year, taking eight wickets.
Bangalore had lost six matches in a row before their recent victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad. This win could inspire them to eventually climb from the bottom of the table among the 10 teams. The Royal Challengers still have slim chances of making it to the playoffs. Virat Kohli, as usual, has been at the forefront of Bangalore’s batting exploits. In this IPL season, he has scored 430 runs at an average of 61.42, including a century and three half-centuries. However, Bangalore needs more from captain Faf du Plessis, whose average in IPL 2024 is less than 30. Yash Dayal and Cameron Green are the top wicket-takers for RCB in this year’s IPL with eight and six respectively. Dayal is a promising fast-bowling prospect. Green may not wield the bat as a utility player, but he continues to prove his worth with the ball for Bangalore.
