After the 0:1 defeat in the derby against Lokomotiv in the ninth round CSKA did not lose heart and produced an excellent streak. In the following matches CSKA defeated Ural (2:0) and Dynamo (3:1). In the last round CSKA showed great football and played one of the best matches of the season, beating Arsenal with a score 5:1 at home. In the first round of the Europa League CSKA did not succeed in winning. In the confrontation with Wolfsberger the CSKA opened the scoring, but in the end they could not keep the victory, having scored a 1:1 draw with their rival in Austria.
Lazio started the season in Serie A very poorly. In the opening match the Eagles showed excellent football, beating Cagliari with a score 2:0 away, but after that the team got into a crisis.
