Enter one total stake and 2–8 decimal prices. The calculator splits that stake so every entered selection targets the same gross payout when exactly one covered selection wins. It allocates stake; it does not estimate probabilities or decide which outcomes belong in the set.

Examples: 1000, 1000.50 or 1000,50. Avoid ambiguous thousands formats such as 1,000.

Rounding: displayed stakes use two decimal places and are adjusted so their sum matches the total stake. The displayed gross returns can therefore differ slightly from one another even though the full-precision calculation targets one equal payout.

Dutching Formula

Dutching gives shorter-priced selections more stake and longer-priced selections less stake. With a fixed total amount at risk, equal gross payouts also produce the same net result when exactly one covered selection wins.

K = (1 / O1) + (1 / O2) + ... + (1 / On)
Equal gross return = Total stake / K
Stake i = Equal gross return / Oi
Stake i = Total stake × (1 / Oi) / K
Covered-outcome net result = Equal gross return − Total stake

Oi is the decimal price for selection i. K is the combined implied probability expressed as a decimal. A value below 1.00 means the entered prices would return more than the total stake if one entered selection wins; a value above 1.00 means the equalised payout is below the total stake.

That comparison applies only to the selections entered. It does not prove arbitrage, complete market coverage or positive expected value. Those conclusions require additional information that this allocation calculator does not infer.

Worked Dutching Example

Take a 100-unit total stake and three mutually exclusive outcomes priced at 2.35, 3.30 and 3.10. Their combined implied probability is 105.11%, so the full-precision equal gross return is 95.13 units.

The stake split changes the payout balance; it does not remove the pricing cost built into the entered odds. After two-decimal rounding, the three displayed payouts can differ by a few cents even though the underlying calculation targets 95.13 units.

Limits of Dutching

  • Allocation, not prediction: the calculator does not estimate true probabilities or decide whether a selection is worth backing.
  • One-winner assumption: the equal-return formula is designed for alternative outcomes where exactly one entered selection is expected to settle as the winner. If several selections can win together, the payout no longer follows this single-winner calculation.
  • Incomplete coverage can lose the full stake: if a possible outcome is not entered and that outcome occurs, every covered selection can lose.
  • Odds changes require recalculation: changing one price changes the stake required on every selection.
  • Settlement rules can alter the payout: voids, dead heats, ties, pushes, deductions, commissions and market-specific rules may produce a different final return.
  • Stake increments matter: bookmaker minimums or fixed increments can prevent an exact two-decimal allocation.
  • Very small total stakes may be unusable: if any calculated selection stake rounds to 0.00, the calculator will ask for a larger total stake or fewer selections.

Dutching Calculator FAQ

Can I Dutch only two outcomes in a three-way market?

Yes, but the calculation covers only the two entered selections. If the omitted third outcome occurs, both Dutching bets can lose. A positive covered-outcome result does not make an incomplete market set risk-free.

What happens if the odds move after I place the first selection?

The original equal-return split is no longer exact. Recalculate with the prices actually available for the remaining selections and account for any stake already placed before deciding whether the new distribution still fits your plan.

What if my bookmaker only accepts stake increments such as 0.10 or 1.00?

The exact mathematical split may be impossible. Round the stakes to the permitted increment and compare the resulting gross payouts before placing the bets, because larger rounding steps create larger payout differences.

Can a void, dead heat or deduction change the equal-return result?

Yes. Dutching assumes the entered decimal prices settle as entered. A void, dead-heat reduction, commission, deduction or different market rule can change the actual return on one or more selections.

Can I use prices from different bookmakers?

The arithmetic can use any decimal prices, but the selections must represent compatible outcomes with settlement rules you have checked. Using several bookmakers also introduces practical differences such as limits, stake increments and rule variations.

Should I recalculate after one price changes?

Yes. Every stake depends on the reciprocal sum of all entered odds, so one price change alters the target allocation for the entire set.
