Liverpool
Last weekend, Arne Slot’s team managed to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League standings. The Reds secured a 2-1 victory over Brighton and benefited from Manchester City’s unexpected loss to Bournemouth.
As a result, Liverpool is now unbeaten in six consecutive league matches, with five wins and one draw. Midweek, the Merseysiders also delivered a resounding win at home against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, putting four goals past the German champions.

Aston Villa
Aston Villa, on the other hand, dropped points in the Champions League for the first time, in a match where they were expected to win. In an away game against Brugge, a single goal from a penalty early in the second half decided the outcome.
This defeat was Aston Villa’s third in a row. Previously, they suffered a heavy 1-4 away loss to Tottenham in the league, and before that, they were unexpectedly knocked out of the League Cup at home by Crystal Palace with a 1-2 scoreline. These setbacks have pushed them out of the top four, where they now trail Chelsea on tiebreakers.
