Leipzig

Marco Rose’s team has surprisingly found itself among the underdogs of the Champions League group stage. The “Bulls” started with two losses and are among seven teams that haven’t earned a single point. However, it’s worth noting that their opponents were from the European elite.

First, Leipzig lost 1-2 away to Atlético Madrid, and then at home, they couldn’t hold onto their lead in a dramatic 2-3 loss to Juventus. Over the weekend, the “Bulls” secured a 2-0 away win against Mainz in the Bundesliga. This victory was their third in a row, placing Leipzig second in the standings, only trailing Bayern on goal difference.

Liverpool

The English side, on the other hand, started the Champions League group stage on a high note, with two wins. Interestingly, both of their opening matches were against Italian teams. In the first round, they comfortably defeated AC Milan 3-1 away, followed by a 2-0 win at Anfield over Bologna.

Notably, the “Reds” have gone 13 consecutive Champions League matches without a draw—recording 9 wins and 4 losses, with three of those defeats coming against Real Madrid. Liverpool heads into the match against Leipzig after a 2-1 home victory over Chelsea. After eight rounds, they lead the Premier League table, one point ahead of Manchester City.
