Freiburg

Towards the end of the championship, Freiburg’s performance leaves much to be desired. The “Brazilians from Breisgau” suffered defeats in their last two matches. First, they lost to Leipzig (0-1), and then to Union Berlin (2-4). However, Christian Streich’s team still has a chance to qualify for the Champions League. Currently, they sit in fifth place, trailing the fourth spot by only three points. After 34 rounds, the hosts have accumulated 56 points. They are seven points ahead of their closest pursuer, so Freiburg will secure their fifth-place position regardless of other outcomes. The question remains whether they can climb higher.

Wolfsburg

Thanks to their victory over Hoffenheim (2-1) in the previous round, Wolfsburg stormed into the European competition zone and currently occupies sixth place in the Bundesliga standings. However, their position in the top six is not yet guaranteed. They are only ahead of Bayer Leverkusen on goal difference and hold a three-point lead over Eintracht Frankfurt. Therefore, they cannot afford to relax or drop points, even against a strong opponent like Freiburg, as it may jeopardize their chances of qualifying for European competitions next year. Wolfsburg has several injured players in the infirmary. Players such as Lacroix, Nmecha, and Paulo Otavio will be unable to help the “Wolves” in this round. However, Nico Kovac has a decent squad depth and won’t have trouble selecting the players to field.
