Nigerian AML rules require regulated financial institutions and other covered businesses to perform customer due diligence and monitor relevant transactions. A betting operator may request identity, payment-method ownership or source-of-funds information under applicable law, licence conditions, payment-provider rules or its own risk controls.
A deposit may be accepted before full verification is complete. Additional checks can still occur before a withdrawal, after a mismatch in personal details or when account activity requires further review.
Information that may be requested
- full legal name, date of birth, phone number and residential address;
- a government-issued identity document;
- a selfie or live facial check confirming that the document belongs to the account holder;
- proof that the bank account, card or other payment method belongs to the account holder;
- proof of address;
- information about the source of funds when enhanced checks are required.
The operator’s privacy notice must explain how personal information is collected, used and protected. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, data subjects have rights that include access, correction, objection, restriction, data portability and reporting concerns to the supervisory authority.
Do not send an unredacted identity document, bank statement or card image to an unofficial agent. Use the secure account area or another verified submission channel identified in the operator’s privacy notice.
