Real Madrid

Real Madrid had an incredible season last year. Despite lacking a nominal main center forward, Carlo Ancelotti’s team managed to win not only La Liga but also triumphed in the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup. In the decisive Champions League match, “Los Blancos” defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 with goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior in the second half.

This summer, Real Madrid went on a tour of the USA, where they lost El Clasico to Barcelona 1-2 and were defeated by AC Milan 0-1. In the final match of the tour, the Spanish champions beat Chelsea 2-1.

The match against Atalanta will mark the debut for Real’s star newcomer Kylian Mbappe, who did not play for his new club in the friendly matches. The young Brazilian Endrick may also make his debut.

Atalanta

Atalanta won a European cup for the first time in its history. Gian Piero Gasperini’s team surprisingly defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final. The Nigerian forward from the Bergamo club, Ademola Lookman, scored a hat-trick. In Serie A, Atalanta managed to finish fourth despite not having the best start to the season. These results allowed Atalanta to qualify for the Champions League once again.

Over the summer, Atalanta lost one of its most important players. Due to a cruciate ligament tear, the team’s top scorer, Gianluca Scamacca, will miss almost the entire season. To replace him, Atalanta quickly signed Italy national team forward Mateo Retegui from Genoa.

In summer friendlies, Atalanta looked unconvincing. Gian Piero Gasperini’s team suffered heavy defeats to St. Pauli (0-3) and Parma (1-4), and also drew with AZ Alkmaar (2-2).
