Milan

AC Milan strengthened their squad quite well during the summer and started the season with a series of strong matches. In the first round of the championship, Stefano Pioli’s team easily dealt with Bologna, securing a 2-0 victory away from home. Torino was also not a serious challenge for the Rossoneri, who secured a convincing 4-1 victory at home. A tough but well-deserved 2-1 victory against Roma in the third round showed that Milan is determined to compete for the title. After such strong performances, Milan approached the derby against Inter Milan in excellent spirits, hoping to end their four-game losing streak against the Nerazzurri. However, the Rossoneri fell apart and suffered a 1-5 defeat in the crucial match. This defeat dropped Milan to third place in the table.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United made a lot of noise in the Premier League last season, finishing fourth in the table and returning to the Champions League after a 20-year absence. During the summer, the Magpies further strengthened their already decent squad with signings like Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes, spending nearly 100 million euros on midfielders. Eddie Howe’s team started their Premier League campaign with a 5-1 victory over Aston Villa, but they couldn’t maintain that success. Three consecutive defeats following that victory clearly indicate that there is still a lot of work to be done for the Magpies. They managed to break their streak of losses with a 1-0 victory over Brentford in the last round, lifting Newcastle United to 11th place in the table.
